Type Locality and Naming
Along the village of Sayat, middle reaches of the Amu Darya River, Turkmenistan. G.I. Amursky, 1958 (320, p.19).
Synonym: Sayat Suite, Саясткая св.
Lithology and Thickness
Alluvial polymictic sands and sandstones with gravel and pebbles of Paleozoic rocks. Thickness 10-15m.

Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
With erosion, it overlies the Dengizkul-Neog Fm and, together with the latter, is capped by a single carbonate weathering crust, represented by concretionary sandstones (1-3 m).
Upper contact
At the foot of the Dengizkul-Sayat outliers or plateaus, the Sadyvar Fm and Tashakyr Fm are embedded.
Regional extent
Karakum, Southwest Kyzylkum, Karshinsky Steppe.

Fossils
Contains freshwater Pliocene ostracods.
Age
Upper Pliocene Akchagyl regional stage (middle part) (?). A. conditionally attributed the Sayat Fm to the Upper Pliocene-Lower Quaternary deposits. The age of the suite is conditionally mid-Akchagyl.
